Due to the lack of certainty in planning for the coming summer all offered courses are subject to change and/or cancellation. We may need to adapt/merge courses to be able to adhere to relevant government regulations in place at the time.
In the case that the number of participants needs to be reduced, this will be done according to the sequence of registrations received. Any cancellations will be refunded in full.
Start Sailing 1 & 2 combined
We will be combining the Start Sailing 1 & 2 course this year. The course content will be tailored to the experience and competence of each participant.

Course Inclusions
- 20hrs with qualified Australian Sailing instructors.
- Morning Tea and Light Lunch (1:00 - 1:30) each day.
- Certificate presentation.
Enrollments
Registration is only possible after you have obtained an AS (Australian Sailing) number, which can be completed during the registration process. Registration must be made under the name of the participant.
Payment is required at the time of registration.
The number of places available is limited, so enrollments will be accepted on a first-in basis in the order completed, until the squad limit is reached. This rule applies to all applications, including Club members, and in the interests of fairness to all will be strictly enforced.

Start Sailing 1: This Course is designed to provide a safe and enjoyable introduction to Dinghy sailing for complete beginners. It includes an introduction to fundamental boat handling skills and essential safety knowledge. Topics covered include basic clothing and equipment selection, sailing terminology, boat launch and recovery, capsize recovery in shallow water.
Start Sailing 2: Your Discover Sailing journey continues as you master all of the fundamental dinghy sailing skills. This Course introduces skills and knowledge that will enable the participant to safely sail a small boat in light winds without guidance. You are now equipped to sail your dinghy on your own voyages of discovery. Topics covered include rigging of the boat, capsize recovery in deeper water, sail a triangular course, basic sailing rules and theory.

This course combines Start Sailing 1 and 2 together.

Water confident.
Who should do this course?
This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.
Course Outcome
You will gain your Start Sailing 1 And Start Sailing 2 completion certificate.
We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here.
